Benin - Economic sectors



Agriculture (including hunting, forestry, and fishing) employed roughly 80 percent of the workforce and generated

37.9 percent of the GDP in 1999. Cotton and palm oil are the main exports, and the country is predominantly self-sufficient in foodstuffs. Industry (including mining, manufacturing, construction, and power) provided 13.5 percent of the GDP in 1999, while services contributed 48.6 percent.
