The fishing industry has great potential, but current production does not begin to meet local demands, and large quantities of fish must be imported. Shrimp and mackerel make up one-third of the total annual catch, with shrimp the leading fisheries export. In 2000, Trinidad and Tobago exported $10.6 million in fish and fish products, up from $2.4 million in 1990. In 1986, the Archipelagic Waters and Exclusive Economic Zone Act defined the sovereign fishing jurisdiction around the nation, which has created new opportunities for marine fishing off the east coast of Trinidad. The harvest in 2000 was about 9,661 tons, up from 3,730 tons in 1986.
This is the first part of the request for assistance.
My 10year old son has a project regarding fishing in Trinidad & Tobago.

c. What problems are faced by the fishing industry in T&T?
d. What problems are caused by over-fishing?
e. How can we protect this natural resource.
Thanks & Regards,
Stephanie
