La Savane is a park located in the city of Fort-de-France. The park was originally started by French settlers for growing and cultivating new plants on the island. The garden houses many beautiful species of native fauna. This a good example of the Caribbean gardens located all over the island. La Savane is home to many statues. One of the most recognized, is the statue of Josephine Tascher de La Pagerie. She became the wife of Napoleon and the Empress of France. The garden also has a small market where the visitor will find many souvenirs and colorful wares for sale.

Diving in Martinique is an enjoyable activity to do when visiting the island. There are many easy sites to explore for the beginner. The dive sites are home to many different species of aquatic sea life. Some of the sea life seen while diving here are dolphins, sea turtles, and barracudas. The coral reefs and underwater wrecks are all waiting to be discovered under the beautiful waters of Martinique. The beaches on the north side of the island are a beautiful black sand beaches. The reason for the beaches being black are from the volcanic eruptions of the past. With black sandy beaches, emerald green hills, and rich blue waters make this an amazing back drop for photos. The beaches on the south side of the island are a brilliant white sand. The water here is calm and is great for families with small children. Beaches on the east side of the island are rugged and are perfect for exploring. The waters here are turbulent and rough. Swimming here is not advised, but the landscape is awe inspiring for many visitors. With so many choices of beaches to visit in Martinique, this makes for a great trip to the beach.
