Jordan is an Arab country in Southwest Asia. The country shares control of the Dead Sea with Israel and the coastline of the Gulf of Aqaba with Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Egypt. Jordan is mainly covered by desert, except for the area of the Jordan River. The area is considered the Fertile Crescent of Jordan. The climate in this country is dry and arid with temperatures reaching 90( in the summer and 32( in the winter months.

The ancient city of Petra was built by the Nabataeans. The city was entirely built into the side of a mountain. The rock carved city is considered to be one of the new wonders of the world. So far scholars are not sure of when the city was built. The Nabataeans knew how to control the water supply and built cisterns, dams, and water conduits making the city swell with residents in the middle of the desert. With water being in huge demand, Petra controlled the trade routes across Jordan. Visitors to the site will be enthralled by the ancient buildings and rich historic culture of this ancient city. Petra is a must see when traveling to Jordan.

The Dead Sea is a salt water lake between Jordan and Israel. The shores of the lake are the lowest point on the planet on dry land. People have been attracted to the waters of the lake for thousands of years. The sea is eight times saltier than the oceans of the world. The Dead Sea was one of the first health spas of the world. The sea provided a wide variety of products. The Egyptians used balms made from the natural resources of the Dead Sea in mummification and some for cosmetics. Many cultures believe that the mud of the lake have healing properties and promotes good health. One of the favorite past times for visitors to the Dead Sea is to float in the salty waters. The high salt content of the lake makes everything unusually buoyant. The Dead Sea in Jordan is one of the most unique travel destinations.

The Jordan River is considered to be one of the most important sites to visit in Jordan for Christians around the world. The Bible states that Jesus was baptized in the river by John the Baptist and the river is where Jesus was first declared the Son of God. The river was also the site of seven miracles talked about in the Bible. The Jordan River is held sacred to Christians and many make the journey across the world just to be baptized in its waters.

The Red Sea draws divers to the area because of its rich and diverse ecosystem. The coral reefs are said to be 5,000 to 7,000 years old making a unique diving experience. More than 1,100 species of fish have been recorded in the Dead Sea. Ten percent of the fish are only found in the waters here. The coastal reefs are also visited by several species of shark. The Red Sea gives divers a chance to explore the amazing coral beds and spot some of the exotic fish that call these waters home.
