Travel To Fiji

Fiji is an island nation located in the South Pacific, officially Fiji is known as Republic of the Fiji Island. The country is composed of 322 total islands and 522 inlands. The culture of Fiji is richly diverse from the influence of Indian, Asian and Europeans. There are two major islands in Fiji, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu that is home to approximately 87% of the total population.

The island of Fiji is a perfect tourist destination and is packed with many things to do. The Mamanuca Islands are a series of over thirty smaller islands that offer luxury resorts. Tourists can visit many of the other islands on a day cruise and enjoy coral reefs, uninhabited islands, a day at a luxury spa or take a picnic on one of the islands. One of the best cruises offered is the Coral Cat, which takes vacationers dolphin watching, fishing and snorkeling off the coast of Malolo Barrier Reef.

While in Fiji, one of the must see attractions is the Navala Village Tour in the South Pacific. This village is located fifty minutes into the highlands by car and is one of the few areas that still showcases houses that are still built from traditional materials. The homes are referred to as bures and have bamboo woven walls, a thatch roof and one single room. The villagers welcome tourists with a customary yagona ceremony, where the natives greet the visitors and and offer drinks made from the root of the Yagona tree.

Fiji has some beautiful coral reefs and is known as the soft coral capital of the world. There are thousands of coral reefs all over the islands and there are instructors that can teach the novice how to scuba dive and snorkel. Some of the most popular reefs are the Rainbow Reef in the north and the Astrolabe Reef in the south. No matter which reef is explored, guests will find breathtaking views of marine life and a breathtaking splash of color.

Island hopping can also be the highlight of a Fijian vacation. There is a ferry between Yasawa Island and Nadi, travel time is about two hours. The Yasawa Island chain is a series of coral and volcanic islands that are either uninhabited or home to small fishing villages. There are several hotels on these islands that provide reasonably priced accommodations.

Bouma National Park should also be added to a travelers itinerary as a must-see location. It is a tropical rainforest set in the Northern Group of Islands on Taveuni. There are cliffs, mountains and cove beaches and beautiful flora. The main attraction of this location is a series of waterfalls, Tavoro Falls, which can be reached on foot within ten minutes from the mainroad.

With Fiji having a total of 330 islands, it makes for a great opportunity for exploration. By Cargo boat, travels can explore the Lau Group and by plane or ferry the island of Ovalau can be reached. The Lomaiviti Islands can be reached by local fishing boat. While Batiki and Moturiki offer smaller budget resorts.

There are also daily sightseeing tours available by helicopter and seaplane. Most islands can be reached within a minimal amount of time and offer breathtaking views of waterfalls and reefs. There are optional side excursions available to the Nausori Highlands inland from Nadi, which is home to some beautiful vegetation and wildlife.

For the traveler who prefers, the Coral Coast offers large beach resorts and has three historical sites. The Sigatoka Sandunes National Park, Tavuni Hill Fort and Nakabuta Pottery village are all located within close proximity of each other and are popular tourist sites. All of these locations are within an hours drive of the local airport and popular resorts.

The climate in Fiji is tropical. The summer season begins in December and lasts until mid-April, temperatures are warm and humid during this time. It is during this time when Fiji experiences its “wet season”, making conditions perfect for visiting the rainforests and waterfalls. At the end of April, Fiji has a more moderate and comfortable climate making conditions ideal season for visiting.
