The Kingdom of Denmark is the southern most Scandinavian country and borders the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. Denmark is mainly a large peninsula with many smaller islands surrounding this unique country. Some of the more famous islands in Denmark are Zealand and Funen. It has become one of the most visited countries in Scandinavia next to Sweden. The national language is Danish. It is also ranked one of the least corrupt countries in the world and was the founding country of NATO.

Some of the first inhabitants of Denmark were the vikings. From the 8th through the 11th centuries vikings dominated the country. The vikings were expert ship builders and dominated the trade routes in the British Isles and most of Western Europe. In 965 the pagan vikings were converted to Christianity by Harald Blatand. This story is inscribed on the Jelling Stones and is considered the first written record of Denmark becoming a nation state. The Jelling Stones consist of two large stones sitting in the Jelling churchyard. The stones are one of the more popular historical sites to visit in Denmark.

Many famous authors hail from Denmark, the most notable one would be, Hans Christian Anderson. He was born in the city of Odense, Denmark. Some of his well known works include The Ugly Duckling, The Emperor's New Clothes, and The Little Mermaid just to name a few. The story of The Little Mermaid has been immortalized in Denmark's capital of Copenhagen. There sitting on a rock in the harbor is the statue of The Little Mermaid. The statue was made by Edvard Eriksen and was unveiled on August 23rd, 1913. Most first time visitors are surprised by the statues small size. The sculpture is only 1.25 meters high and weighs about 175 kg.

The National Museum of Denmark is located in the city of Copenhagen. The museum is comprised mostly of the history of the Danish culture. Some of it's most popular exhibits are the Egtved Girl, The Golden Horns of Gallehus, and Kingigtorssuaq Runestone just to name a few. The museum has dedicated its self to focusing on the archaeological and anthropological history of Greenland. The National Museum of Denmark is also responsible for handling Denmark's national treasures.

Denmark's northern location on the globe makes the days short in the wintertime with sunrise starting as late as 9:30 am and sunset as early as 4:30 pm. In the summertime the days are a lot longer with sunrise starting at 3:30 am and setting as late as 10:00 pm. The average rainfall in Denmark is about 121 days per year. Fall is the wettest time of the year. The best time to travel to Denmark is in the summer months. Denmark has a lot of wind a majority of the time. But, it seems to lessen in the summertime.

Today, Denmark is a culturally diverse society. The country is known for it's contemporary design schools, lush gardens in front of Rosenborg Castle, and it's rich history through out the ages. Denmark has become one of the most visited Scandinavian countries due to it's natural beauty and deep cultural pride.
