Two types of data are used in the GCI: (a) Survey data:These data are the results drawn from the World Economic Forum’s Executive Opinion Survey. (b) Hard data: These data come from indicators obtained from a variety of sources. This indicator is a derived from the following indicators: (a) Property rights (b) Intellectual property protection (c) Diversion of public funds (d) Public trust of politicians (e) Judicial independence (f) Favoritism in decisions of government officials (g) Wastefulness of government spending (h) Burden of government regulation (i) Efficiency of legal framework in settling disputes (j) Efficiency of legal framework in challenging regs (k) Transparency of government policymaking (l) Business costs of terrorism (m) Business costs of crime and violence (n) Organized crime (o) Reliability of police services (p) Ethical behavior of firms (q) Strength of auditing and reporting standards (r) Efficacy of corporate boards (s) Protection of minority shareholders’ interests.
