Vanuatu - Environment

Vanuatu's population growth has caused concern for the environment in several areas. Water pollution in urban areas is a problem due to inadequate sanitation systems. A majority of the country's population does not have access to a reliable supply of safe drinking water. The nation's logging industry threatens the forests and contributes to the problem of soil erosion. Forests currently cover 75% of the land area. The reefs on Vanuatu's coasts, which are the home of the country's marine life, are threatened by inappropriate fishing methods and siltation. In 1987, the government formed the National Advisory Committee on the Environment (NACE) to address the nation's developing environmental concerns. The estuarine crocodile, hawksbill turtle, Fiji banded iguana, and insular flying fox are threatened species.

The first thing that comes to mind with such environmental issues is to enact laws, with serious fines against such practises. However this is often impractical especially in trying to enforce such a law. Ignorance and apathy are probably the main causes of water pollution, so you might want to think about how to address those problems. Another point to consider in Vanuatu is there is no way to dispose some of the waste that we have accumulated over the years, for instance e-waste.

Hi my name Is Ruth as I already mention,im 21 yrs.' old, well im a geography student, and my favourite topic in geography is Enviroment.almost every assignment that I attend to do ,I always mention that working together is the best solution within our environment. for example in order for our beautiful Vanuatu have a good environment ,government leaders should work together with leaders of our six[6] provinces from north to south. We need to also control our population structure, our population is too high that leads to land dispute, not enough food and also lack of resources.

Hello my name is Victoria Smith, I am a 16 year old girl and I have researched so much information on this island. The amount of enviromental issues is ridicolous and I think the area these people live in is not safe. As a 16 year old girl doing a school project on this island I hope to find more info on this island.
