St. Lucia - Migration

Emigration has provided an escape valve for population pressure. Neighbors such as Trinidad, Guyana, and the French Caribbean islands have received the bulk of emigrants from St. Lucia, with lesser numbers going to the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States. In 2000 the net migration rate was -7.0 migrants per 1,000 population. The number of migrants that year was 8,000. The government views the migration levels as satisfactory.
