In 1995, there were 64 hospital beds per 1,000 people. As of 1997 there were 1.2 physicians, 5 nurses, and 0.2 dentists per 1,000 people. In 2000 public-sector health care personnel included 37 physicians, 198 nurses, 4 dentists, and 10 pharmacists. Health care personnel in the private sector included 9 doctors, 5 dentists, and 11 pharmacists. Between 1996 and 2000, total health care expenditure was estimated at 3.1% of GDP.

Hygienic education is the primary concern of the Central Board of Health. There were 27 cases of dengue fever in 1995. The infant mortality rate was an estimated 15.8 per 1,000 people in 2002. Average life expectancy in the same year was 72.8 years. As of 2002, the crude birth rate and overall mortality rate were estimated at, respectively, 18.6 and 9 per 1,000 people. Altogether, 14 confirmed AIDS cases were reported between 1992 and 1995. In 1995 there were 50 AIDS cases reported. Polio and measles appeared to be absent from these islands in 1994–95.
