Belize - Tourism, travel, and recreation



Belize is attracting growing numbers of tourists to its Mayan ruins, its barrier reef (the longest in the Western Hemisphere), and its beaches, forests, and wildlife. Tourist arrivals totaled 373,995 in 2000; mostly from the Americas. In the same year, tourist expenditures totaled US $121 million. There were 4,106 hotel rooms with 7,045 bed-places and an occupancy rate of 42%.

In 2001 the US Department of State estimated the cost of staying in Belize City at US $165 per day.
