The island of Vanuata is located in the Pacific Ocean and is volcanic in origin. The island has a mountainous, rocky, rugged terrain and is surrounded by an active reef and a continental shelf that drops directly into the ocean. The culture of Vanuata is richly tied to Melanesian tradition, the cultures are divided into three groups; those who establish wealth determined by how much they give away; in the north, the villagers observe Melanesian traditions and in the south, there is a system involving being granted a title and privileges.

The island offers a wide range of activities which has brought about a large growth in tourism to the islands. One popular activity is to visit L'Hippocampus, or The Sea Horse Ranch. In Port Vila, horse back riding is a great way to get out and explore the natural surroundings. Guests will be taken on a champagne cruise around the beautiful bay while being serenaded by a local guitarist. Once the tour concludes, guests are then returned to the Le Cafy du Village where they are treated to an array of finger foods and appetizers and can pose for souvenir pictures with the captain and crew. Many tourists find this a romantic and tranquil way to tour the bay.
