Saint Bathelemy is one of four overseas collectives located in France. The island is most often referred to as simply, St. Barts. St. Barts is well known for its twenty-one beaches, gourmet dining and high end boutiques. The island is also considered to be the playground for the wealthy and have over twenty-five hotels that offer four to five-star accommodations.

The month of January is always very important in St. Barts, it is the beginning of the annual St. Barts Music Festival. During the entire month of January, the island is filled with festivals, celebrations, parades and live music. There are different themes for every night some of which include; Jazz Night, Piano Recital Night, A Night of Song, an Orchestra Concert, a Mostly Mozart Night, Chamber Music and a Night of Rock and Roll. There is always a dinner benefit held at Eddy's Restaurant and the proceeds go towards music appreciate and preservation. This has been an ongoing tradition on the island for the past twenty-four years and the event gains further popularity each year, drawing tourists from all over the islands and some from around the world.

Many people enjoy touring the settlement of Eglise de Lorient which is the site of the first French settlement in Saint Barthelemy. Located in the town is a 19th century Catholic church, which was made of stones that were hand cut and laid by women and conch shells found on the island are used for holy water receptacles. Every year on November 1st and 2nd, the town celebrated the annual Catholic holiday of All Souls and All Saints Day. Locals gather for a midnight mass, light candles and hold a prayer vigil at the cemetery and everyone is invited to attend.

One of the most popular pastimes on the islands is scuba diving. With the twenty-one beaches located around the island, it is only natural that this would be a very big attraction for locals and visitors alike. There are several companies on the island that offer equipment rental and have instructors that can teach the novice everything they need to know about scuba diving.

St. Barts is home to some of the best cuisine in the Caribbean. Dining out in St. Barts can be a food-lovers delight. The islands have everything from French Cordon Bleu to Creole and Carribean island cooking. There are many wonderful restaurants offering a wide variety of delectable menu choices, such as; PaCri Restaurant, La Route des Boucaniers, La Mandala, On the Rocks Restaurant and Tappas Bar, Le Select and the Francois Plantation.

The hotels in St. Barts are world famous for being plush and luxurious and provide guests with stellar service that keeps them coming back over and over again. The Carl Gustav Hotel was named after the current King of Sweden and is a very glamorous structure. The hotel boasts fourteen individual one and two bedroom villas, marble bathrooms, chic restaurants and an upscale boutique. Another perk the property has is private sunset tours on the Carl Gustav luxury yacht. Le Tom Beach Hotel is located on the opposite side of the island and is privately owned and operated by Thierry de Badereau. The hotel is quaint and painted in traditionally bright colors reflecting the Caribbean environment. St. Barts is home to some of the finest hotels and beaches in the world, first class food and service all combine to make it the perfect place to get away.
