Peaceful Puerto del Carmen: A Lively and Fun Vacation Spot

Located in Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Puerto del Carmen is the main tourist resort town and a part of the municipality of Tias. Puerto del Carmen has three beaches and hotels to accommodate over 30,000 tourists. The island of Lanzarote is the most oriental of all islands and is one of the most ancient in the archipelago.

Puerto del Carmen attracts tourists from all over the world such as Europe, the United Kingdom, Germany, Scandinavia and Spain. There are many things to do, the Avenida de las Playas or New Town has many bars, restaurants, casinos and boutiques. There are villas, apartments and hotels that cover the entire coastline and offer spectacular views of the beaches and sparkling ocean water.

Puerto del Carmen also has many stores and boutiques that sell Oriental products. New Town has bars, restaurants and tourist shops. While the Old Town is the home of such world renowned restaurants La Cascada-Puerto, El Tomate and La Magnolia. While the Biosphere Plaza is a newer constructed shopping place that has international cuisine and entertainment venues. Great restaurants in the new area are The Hanover II, Capri, Lani and La Ola.

The nightlife of Puerto del Carmen is very lively and prices are very moderate. The locations usually include music whether it is live or from a DJ or VJ. The weather of Puerto del Carmen is sunny and the climate is enjoyable all year round and shopping is low tax, which is reflected in the prices of the island. The island is home to popular nightclubs such as Caesars, Route 66, Tropical, 928, Tequila Bar and many more. For a more cosmopolitan environment the island offers Cafy del Carmen, Cafy la Ola or The Hawaiian Bar where the atmosphere is lively and entertaining, while still being relaxed.

On the north side of the island is Mirador del Rio, this attraction was designed by Cesar Manrique and offers guests breathtaking views of the neighboring island of La Graciosa. On the east coast of the island Manrique was responsible for designing all the nightclubs and an underground auditorium in volcanic caves. The caves connect the seawater lagoon in the center cave to the Atlantic Ocean and visitors will notice the sounds of the high and low tides. The waters of the lagoon are home to the blind albino crab, which is the only place in the world these creatures can be found.

Cesar Manrique also created the Jardin de Cactus, or Cactus Garden which is located in Guatiza. There are over 1,400 species of cactus located here and guests can also tour Manriques lava sculptures. The location was originally designed to be Manriques private home, but was turned into a museum. The structure is built above and below ground and though the above ground structure appears typical in design, the underground level was created from five volcanic bubbles. When touring the Fundaciun, guests can view an exhibit of Manriques private collection.

There are many exquisite hotels and private villas that make wonderful lodgings for tourists visiting the island. The hotel offers an outstanding view of the beaches and ocean, a hotel restaurant and bar on the grounds and everything needed to make a stay at this location enjoyable and relaxing. The El Dorado hotel is situated on a hillside and has a beautiful panoramic view of the ocean and beach which is only 500 meters away. Old Town and the harbor are also located nearby which offers guests the advantage of enjoying many activities and the nightlife on the island. Puerto del Carmen offers tourists peace and quiet and breathtaking surroundings filled with many things to do and see.
