The Netherlands are located in Western Europe. The Netherlands share its borders with the North Sea, Belgium, and Germany. The country is mainly flat with the exception of the foothills of the Ardennes. The country has a maritime climate with mild winters and cool summers. The Netherlands are the 25th most densely populated country on the planet. The native people of the country are also the tallest in the world. Over 80% of the population is Dutch, but still has a diverse cultural background. The Dutch language is the most frequently spoken language, even though most of the populations is well versed in many secondary dialects.

The Anne Frank House is located in Amsterdam. The house is in the center of the city and was the hiding place where Anne Frank wrote her famous diary during World War II. Anne Frank described her daily life and the events of hiding from the Nazis. The girl and her family were Jews that hid in the house for over two years from the Nazi occupation. The original version of the diary is on display as part of a permanent exhibit. The collection of exhibits, focus on anti-Semitism, racism, and fascism of the Jews during World War II. The house was saved from demolition in 1957 and in 1960 it was opened as a museum. Millions have been moved from a visit to the Anne Frank House. The site is a World Heritage Site and is not to be missed when traveling in Amsterdam.

The Van Gohg Museum in Amsterdam, house the largest collection of paintings from this famous artist. There are more than 200 paintings, 500 drawings, 700 letters, and a personal collection of Japanese prints. The collection is housed in the main building designed by famed architect Gerrit Rietveld. The exhibition wing of the museum was designed by Kisho Kurokawa in 1999 and has 19th century art on display. The art work of Van Gohg is organized chronologically into five periods. The periods represent different phases of his life and work. The Van Gohg Musuem offers insight into his life and art work and is a must see.

Keukenhof Gardens sit outside of Lisse. The flower gardens are the largest in the Netherlands and are the most photographed gardens in the world. There are approximately seven million bulbs planted in the garden annually. The then-mayor of Lisse came up with the idea of the flower garden in 1949. The idea behind the garden was to let grows show off their hybrids. The gardens helped the Netherlands become the largest exporter of flowers. Keukenhof has been the largest flower garden in the world, for over fifty years. The best time to visit the garden is in the spring when a majority of the bulbs are in full bloom.

The village of Kinderdijk is famous for its windmills. The people of the village needed a drainage system for the land and built windmills along the water to dry the farmland. The windmills were built around 1740. There are 19 windmills placed along the edge of the water. The group of windmills located in Kinderdijk is the largest concentration of old windmills in the world. The windmills are no longer in use and have been replaced by the largest pump system in Europe. The Wereld Erfgoed Kinderdijk foundation now maintains and preserves the windmills and the surrounding area. One of the windmills is open for visitors and on most days is operational. The windmills of Kinderdijk are now a World Heritage Site.
