The country of Italy is located on the Italian Peninsula in Southern Europe. Italy is surrounded by the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Adriatic Sea. The climate is mainly Mediterranean, with the exception of regions located in the northern inland part, where it has more of a continental climate.

The Colosseum, located in the city of Rome is one of the best known landmarks. The building was constructed in between 70 and 72 AD under the Emperor Vespasian. The Colosseum was capable of seating 50,000 citizens. The structure was used for entertainment such as, gladiator battles, animal hunts, mock sea battles, executions and plays of Classical Mythology. Approximately 500,000 people died and over a million wild animals were slaughtered all to the delight of the crowd. Today, the Colosseum is open to the public and gives tours of this amazing structure of ancient Rome.

Venice is one of the most unique cities in Italy. This is a walking city and cars are almost nonexistent. The city was built between the 12th and 16th century. Venice is built upon 117 small islands with only one road leading to the service town of Mestre. The Grand Canal snakes around Venice and emerges to an unforgettable view of the Piazza San Marco. Gondola rides are one of the most wonderful and romantic ways to get around the city. It is common to hear gondoliers singing while they oar captivated tourists around this intoxicating city. Venice is considered one of the most romantic cities in the world.

The Piazza Navona is the city square in Rome. The square boasts three fountains, the most famous being the Fountain of the Four Rivers. The square is an outstanding example of Baroque-style art. The square is lined with many shops and restaurants and an abundance of pigeons to feed. At night the square comes alive with music and street performers, as passersby stop to listen. The Piazza Navona is also a great place to take in the culture of Rome.

Italy is world renown for its wines and wineries. Wine is produced in every region of Italy. Italian wine country gives visitors a chance to tour and taste different regional wines. The wineries have some of the most picturesque landscape in all of Italy. While touring the wineries, guides will give the visitors a detailed history of wine making and a sampling at the end of the tours. Many of the wineries also offer lodging and restaurants on the grounds.

Italian cuisine in Italy varies by region and what is in season at the time. Along the coast fish and sea food dishes are quite popular. While in the central part of the country, pasta is a staple in most households. The cuisine in Italy can be traced back to the 4th century BC. This makes eating in Italy a truly delightful experience.

The nightlife in Italy is very different than that of other European countries. Expect to find a mix of people in the bars here. The Italians take life at a more relaxed pace taking their time and enjoying conversations with the young and old. Many of the restaurants have outside tables where visitors can sit and enjoy the weather or just people watch to pass the evening away.

Castello di Bossi is a castle in the heart of Tuscany wine country. The castle offers breathtaking views of the vineyards and has many walking paths throughout the property.
