Hungary is a country located in the Carpathian Basin in Central Europe. Hungary has been on the list of top fifteen tourists destinations for the past ten years. The capital, Budapest, is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. Lake Haviz, located in Budapest is the second largest geothermal lake in the world.

Hungary is a nation that is richly immersed in traditions and festivals, it is home to some of the biggest and most prestigious in all of Central Europe. The Budapest Spring Festival is held every year from mid-March to mid-April. The main focus of the festival is to highlight the symphony orchestra concerts, opera, ballet, open-air events and an Operetta Festival. This festival grows larger and larger every year, with more villages joining in the festivities and tourists who flock to Hungary to take part in this popular festival.

Hungary is home to many spectacular grand castles that are of both historical and architectural importance. The Royal Palace was built in the 13th century and was first inhabited by King Bela. Over the next 700 years, the castle stood as the primary residence for many Hungarian royalty. The castle has a varying architectural mix of both Baroque and Gothic styles, which were popular during the time period. Presently, the castle is home is the most important cultural center housing museums and several buildings that are historical landmarks.

Perhaps, one of the strangest but most interesting attractions in Hungary would have to undoubtedly be, Statue Park. This park contains all of the historical statues of the Communist era, that once lined the streets of Budapest. After the government changed hands and Communism was discontinued, the monuments were moved to this outdoor museum. Among the statues there are busts and monuments in the images of Lenin, Marx and Engels. There are also memorials to Soviet soldiers and Communist Martyrs. This is the only place in the world with a collection of Communist statues and monument works. There is a gift shop on the grounds that sells candles in the shape of past Communist leaders and cans of air from the “last breath of socialism”.

There are many other areas to explore in Hungary and a tourist could never grow tired from a lack of things to do. There are average accommodations and more elite hotels and resorts situated all throughout the country. The Almasy Castle Hotel was built by the count of the Alsmay family in 1880 and was the scene for the filming of the movie, “The English Patient”. The castle has been completely refurbished to its former splendor and is now a fabulous hotel that provides guests with traditional Italian cuisine and fine Hungarian wines and grounds that boast a rose garden bath in the tower and Arabian nights, in which guests are treated to a 12 course arabesque meal and belly dancing entertainers. There are 5 course gourmet meals complete with candles and a guitar player providing the entertainment. The hotel also hosts classical music performance and a Renaissance ball with medieval music and dancers.

In the Castle District, guests can stay at St. George Residence, the hotel boasts exquisite views of the Danube and the Castle District of Buda, which together form a World Heritage Site. The location is close to shopping, restaurants and other historical locations that are fascinating to explore and visit. There are the famous spa and thermal lakes, historical structures rich in history, museums, an ice rink and a zoo, all of this and much more combines to make Hungary a very exciting place to vacation.
