The Cayman Islands are a British territory located in the Caribbean Sea and includes; Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. On May 10th, 1503 the islands were sighted by Christopher Columbus on his fourth and final journey to the New World. He christened the islands the Grand Tortugas, named for the numerous turtles who lived there. Money from the tourism industry accounts for up to 75% of revenue generated by the islands.

One of the most famous attractions in the Cayman Islands is Seven Mile Beach. The beach is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in the world and received the honor of being “The Caribbeans Best Beach”, from Caribbean Travel and Life Magazine. Seven Mile Beach is the most popular and developed area on the islands and is home to several resorts and hotels such as; the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, the Discovery Point Club and the Sunshine Suites Resort. Seven Mile Beach is a public property and has several restaurants, beach bars and guests are permitted to grill food and bring pets.

The Cayman Islands are also known for being the best location in the world to scuba dive. There are several locations where visitors can snorkel and swim with sting-rays and dolphins. There are also two shipwrecks located off the shore of Cayman Brac which tourists find very interesting to explore. One of the most pristine diving spots in the Caymans is Bloody Bay Wall. It is part of the reef system that surrounds Little Cayman Island, it features translucent vertices's walls, exceptional visibility and diverse marine life, it is considered a divers paradise.

Hell, Grand Cayman is a group of black limestone formations in the town of West Bay. It is the size of half a football field and there are two platforms that allow visitors to view the landscape. There are many stories about how Hell received its name, but generally it is accepted that a local official was heard to exclaim, “This is what Hell must look like”, hence the name was born. The name stuck through the years and it has turned out to be a very popular location for tourists.

George Town is the capital of the Cayman Islands. Popular attractions here would be the Conch House, which is formed entirely from the trumpet shells of the mollusk and open year round for tours. Rum Point is located on the north side of Cayman Kai, and is well-known for having a “real” island feel, with hammocks hanging in the trees and a wreck bar, featuring the best Mudslides on the island. Rum Point also has the only restaurant on the island that has a panoramic view of North Sound. Guests on the island enjoy snorkeling, wind surfing, parasailing, swimming and glass bottom boat tours.

Red Sail Sports, just opened the Water Sports Center at Rum Point. The center offers full diving and snorkeling excursions to Stingray City and the North Wall. Also offered are diving and snorkeling lessons, jet ski sunfish and paddle boat rentals as well.

The official currency of the island is the Cayman Island Dollar. The Grand Caymans are also a duty-free shopping haven. Tourists can buy jewelry and merchandise from Chopard, Cartier, Movado and Wagner. Other great deals can be found on designer handbags, perfume, china, rum and other liquors.

The Cayman Islands average temperatures between 78øF to 86øF, all year round. There is also very little difference in the length of days between the winter and summer seasons and the Cayman Islands do not observe daylight savings time. Anytime of year is perfect to travel to this island paradise.
