The British Virgin Islands is located in the Caribbean Sea to the east of Puerto Rico. The islands consist of four main islands Tortola, Virgin Gorde, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke, along with over fifty other islands, fifteen of which are inhabited. The islands have a tropical climate and experience very little temperature differences throughout the year.

Salt Island, British Virgin Island on Tortola, is a unique place to visit. The island is most noted for having the wreckage of the RMS Rhone, was a royal steamer which sank as the result of a hurricane on October 29th, 1867. The wreckage is one of the best locations for snorkeling and scuba diving in the Caribbean.

On the island of Tortola is the Devils Bay Trail. To protect the sanctity of the pristine area, there are no signs that mark the trails or roads. The island has huge boulders that were once hidden deeply beneath volcanic lava. Through the weathering process and wearing away of softer boulders leaving behind caves and dips in the rocks. Guests are invited to view some of the most spectacular scenery on the island and there are also several caves and grottoes to explore.

Arawak Expeditions is a very popular attraction in the British Virgin Islands. The company is a small, family-owned outrigger business that offers both one-day and extended tours via kayaking, canoeing and biking tours around the island of St. John. A newer experience is the inn-to-inn tours for those who prefer not to “rough it” on the islands. Days on the tour are spent hiking to mountain peaks, biking along scenic trails, visiting beaches and cays and canoeing to more remote locations. Every activity combined, leaves visitors with an unforgettable experience and a better appreciation for the islands natural beauty.

For a unique dining experience, Skyworld, is located in Tortola. The restaurant is located on the top of a mountain and provides casually elegant dining experience for its guests. The most unique feature of the restaurant is the 360( panoramic view of the surrounding area below. The menu features filet mignon with a cranberry-tequila sauce, chicken with a passion fruit sauce, rack of lamb, key lime pie and several other appetizing choices.

The Old Government House Museum is located in Road Town, and was the official residence of the governor. The original structure was built in 1899, and completely destroyed by a hurricane in 1924. The present-day building was rebuilt on the same site in 1925 and completed in 1926, and was used until it was deemed unsuitable in 1999. There was a new residence built in 2003 and the old building was renovated and turned into a museum. The structure is now open to the public and invites visitors to come in and view exhibits devoted to the government and political history of the British Virgin Islands.

The life of John Coackley Lettsom is very interesting and deeply rooted into the history of the British Virgin Islands. John was the only surviving son of seven consecutive sets of male twins born to his parents who owned a coffee plantation on the island. During his youth, he traveled extensively and learned apothecary and collected an extensive collection of over 700 minerals during his travels. His mineral collection became an early element of the Cambridge University geology department in 1794. He left the islands and became a physician and surgeon after studying in London, England. Jost van Dyke is a former Quaker settlement and the birthplace of Lettsom and is now home to a museum devoted to telling the story of his life and accomplishments.

On the 850 acre island of Guana which used to be a sugar plantation is now a nature sanctuary. Guests who do not want to be in the midst of many other tourists and chaos of the bustling main islands, can rent out this entire island for privacy and seclusion. St. Peter Island, is the largest private island in the British Virgin Islands and is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, Atlantic Ocean and Sir Francis Drake Bay, and is only accessible by helicopter or boat.
