Unlike most industrialized and economically developed nations where
services and industry dominate the
economy, in Armenia agriculture is the main employer and largest source
of GDP. According to the World Development report 2000/2001, the total
labor force
in 1999 was 1.5 million people, of which 55 percent were employed in
agriculture, 25 percent in services, and 20 percent in industry. In
1999, agriculture accounted for 40 percent of GDP, industry 25 percent
of GDP, and services 35 percent of GDP.
