Number of clinical malaria cases reported are the sum of cases confirmed by slide examination or RDT and probable and unconfirmed cases (cases that were not tested but treated as malaria). NMCPs often collect data on the number of suspected cases, those tested, and those confirmed. Probable or unconfirmed cases are calculated by subtracting the number tested from the number suspected. Not all cases reported as malaria are true malaria cases since most health facilities lack appropriate diagnostic services. The misdiagnosis may have led to under- or over-reporting malaria cases and missing diagnosis of other treatable diseases. Note: Cases reported before 2000 can be probable and confirmed or only confirmed cases depending on the country. Cases reported can be autochthonous malaria cases only or may inlcude imported cases. Mauritius is one of the countries listed but it has had no ongoing local transmission for over a decade. Data for Sudan, after 1999, only represents 15 northern states.
