Tajikistan - Animal husbandry



Livestock herding is a major part of Tajikistan's economy. As of 2001, the livestock included 1,000,000 chickens, 1,475,000 sheep, 1,062,000 cattle, 744,000 goats, and 72,000 horses. Meat production in 2001 included 14,800 tons of beef, 12,900 tons of mutton, and 1,800 tons of poultry. Livestock products in 2001 included cow's milk, 315,600 tons; goat's milk, 25,500 tons; cheese, 6,900 tons; wool (greasy), 2,200 tons; and silk, 300 tons.
