St. Lucia - Energy and power

St. Lucia Electricity Services is responsible for the generation and supply of electricity throughout the island. In 2001, total installed capacity was 22,000 kW. Electrical production in 2000 was 110 million kWh, produced entirely from conventional thermal sources. Consumption of electricity in 2000 was 107 million kWh. St. Lucia's requirements are met through an island-wide grid serviced by two main diesel generating centers, which utilize oil imported from Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago. The Sulfur Springs in Soufrière on the west coast have been confirmed as a source of geothermal energy, with a potential generating capacity of 10 MW.
