St. Kitts and Nevis - Migration

There is less emigration in the current period than there was during the mid-20th century, largely because the economy enjoys almost full employment during the tourist and harvest seasons. During the off-season, some people migrate to other islands in search of work. In 1999, the net migration rate was -1.05 migrants per 1,000 population. The total number of migrants was 4,000 in 2000. The government views the migration levels as satisfactory.
