Belize - Animal husbandry

Mennonite farms account for much of Belize's dairy and poultry output. In 1999, the nation had an estimated 23,000 hogs, 5,000 horses, 4,000 mules, 3,000 sheep, and 1,000,000 chickens. Cattle suited for breeding or crossbreeding with local cattle are Red Poll, Jamaica Black, Hereford, and Brahman (zebu); there were 58,000 head of cattle in 1999. Some 8,000 tons of poultry meat and 8,000 tons of milk were produced in 1998.
