Burkina Faso - International cooperation



Burkina Faso was admitted to UN membership as Upper Volta on 20 September 1960. It is a member of ECA and all the nonregional specialized agencies except IAEA and IMO. It is also a signatory to the Law of the Sea and is a member of the WTO, the African Development Bank, ECOWAS, G-77, and AU. Together with other countries of former French West Africa, it participates in the Council of the Entente. The headquarters of the Communauté Economique de l'Afrique de l'Ouest are in Ouagadougou. Burkina Faso also belongs to the Niger Basin Authority.
